Oelwein Police have released information on some weekend arrests in the city.


Oelwein Police have arrested an Independence man in connection with an assault. Shortly after 6:30pm Friday (Feb. 21), officers were called to the 200 block of 6th Avenue SE on the report of an assault. Following an investigation, 23 year old James Owens was taken into custody on charges of Willful Injury and Assault with a Weapon.

An Oelwein woman has been arrested on driving violations, as well as warrants from Black Hawk and Fayette Counties. Just before 2pm Saturday a vehicle driven by 31 year old Raquel Bowser was pulled over in the 10 block of 1st Avenue NW; she was arrested for Driving While Suspended, a Fayette County warrant for Driving While her License is Suspended and Theft 5th Degree, and a Black Hawk County warrant for driving offenses.

An Oelwein man, 32 year old Andrew Lien, was taken into custody following an interaction with officers shortly after 9:30pm Sunday in the 100 block of 1st Avenue NW. He was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Driving While his License is Barred.

Also Sunday evening, 24 year old Christian Opperman of Oelwein was cited for Driving while his License is suspended and Failure to Provide Proof of Liability Insurance. This citation resulted from a traffic stop in the 100 block 7th ST SE.
