Waterloo Scores Two W’s Over The Weekend

It was like deja vu all over again, this weekend when the Black Hawks beat the Omaha Lancers by a score of 4-3 both nights. Those wins helped propel the team into a huge 4 point lead in the USHL Western conference with a record of 11-3-1.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Playing the first of five consecutive home games, the Black Hawks squeezed past Omaha Friday night for a 4-3 win at Young Arena.

A three-goal second period turned the game permanently in the Hawks favor, and an empty net goal with two minutes to play proved to be the winner.

With an extra Lancer attacker on the ice for the late shifts, Connor Caponi knocked away a pass in his defensive zone, and Patrick Guzzo toted it up the rink, fending off a pair of Lancers. Guzzo wasn’t able to put the puck into the open Omaha net, but after working into the right circle, he shoveled it toward the crease, where Caponi pounced to score his second of the game.

SATURDAY NIGHT
Ryder Rolston scored 2:23 into overtime Saturday to give Waterloo their second 4-3 win in as many nights against Omaha at Young Arena.

During three-on-three action leading up to the winning score, Waterloo maintained possession through a line change, with the puck coming to the left wing boards. Ralston worked away from traffic back to the top of the circles; he cut from left to right, lifting a shot back to the top corner and into the net to lock up a four-point weekend.

BACK IN PARTYTOWN ON FRIDAY & SATURDAY
The Hawks continue their five-game homestand Friday against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The first 500 kids in attendance age 4 to 12 will receive this season’s free youth hockey jersey.
