WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo police officer has been charged in connection with what authorities say was a road rage incident last month.

45-year-old Corbin Allen Payne faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury, a misdemeanor.

According to the newspaper, Payne, a lieutenant with the Waterloo Police Department, accused the driver of another vehicle of cutting off the car he was riding in June 12. Authorities say he struck the other vehicle and grabbed the driver.

An initial court appearance is scheduled Aug. 16. Police Chief Daniel Trelka says Payne is on paid administrative leave. The department is conducting an internal investigation.
