WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Officials say the downtown RiverLoop Public Market Cooperative is closing.

The city owns the building and is not renewing the original five-year lease that expired last month. Paul Huting with the city says the city has several options for future use of the renovated lawn care building but can't yet report what will be done with it.

The market was established five years ago as a downtown grocery and restaurant, focusing on local products. It failed to survive financial difficulties.

The building was renovated as part of the RiverLoop Expo project, financed with gambling revenue and a $1 million state Community Attractions and Tourism grant.
