WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A man has been convicted in the death of a 2-year-old Waterloo girl who authorities say had gotten so cold she died.

A jury found 38-year-old Nathaniel Knight guilty on Monday of child endangerment resulting in death. Authorities say Knight had been baby-sitting little Kennadi Porter on the night she died in March 2013.

Knight, who was a friend of Kennadi's mother, told authorities he gave Kennadi a bath, put her to bed and discovered she wasn't breathing when he checked on her later. Prosecutors say there is no way the child could have gotten so cold in a heated house.

Prosecutors say it's likely Knight put the girl in an unheated porch while he cleaned up after she'd soiled herself and him.
