Waterloo Janitor Accused of Thefts from CF City Desks
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A janitor is accused of stealing money from desks at Cedar Falls city government offices.
37-year-old Vikki Lee Laws was arrested on two counts of third-degree theft and three counts of fifth-degree theft. She's been released from jail.
Laws worked for a janitorial service the city hired in 2014 after laying off city-employed janitors.
City workers began noticing items missing from their desks last fall, but thought they had simply misplaced them.
But in October, one employee noticed $50 missing from inside a sympathy card. Recreation Center employees also reported the theft of a bank deposit bag with nearly $600.
Laws has allegedly admitted to investigators that she checked desks and took any cash she could find.
