Waterloo police have released the name of the man killed in a downtown shooting over the weekend.

Authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Davonta Sellers of Waterloo. He was shot and killed early Sunday morning, shortly after midnight.

According to police, officers responding to a report of disorderly conduct near West Fourth and Jefferson Streets heard multiple shots fired when they arrived. They also saw people running from the area, where several bars are located.

Police said officers found Sellers lying on a sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived. Sellers was pronounced dead a short time later at a Waterloo hospital.

The case remains under investigation. Authorities are still trying to figure out who shot and killed Sellers.

Officials continue to ask for the public’s help in solving the crime. They want witnesses to come forward and contact Waterloo police at 319-291-4340.

Sellers’ shooting death was the third to occur in Waterloo over a span of eight days.
