Authorities are investigating an accident involving two all-terrain vehicles, in a construction zone, that put 2 people in the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.


Just before 7:30pm Wednesday (June 26), the Linn County Sheriff was alerted of an accident in the new construction zone of Highway 30 near Green Ridge Road, south of Lisbon.

2 people were riding separate ATV's in the construction area, when they both lost control of their vehicles, causing both to roll over.

One of the drivers, 33 year old Charles Franks III of Lisbon, was not wearing a helmet; he was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

The other driver, 14 year old Eduardo Rodriguez of Washington, Iowa, was wearing a helmet. He was taken by his mother to University of Iowa Hospitals, with minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff; they were assisted at the scene by Linn County Rescue, Lisbon and Mt. Vernon Police Departments, Lisbon Fire Department, Lisbon/Mt. Vernon Ambulance, and LifeGuard Air Ambulance.
