An Eastern Iowa truck driver is recovering, after crashing into a train in Linn County.

At about 10:15am Wednesday (Feb. 17), emergency responders were called to the accident just south of Alburnett, at the railroad crossing on Arabian Road.

33 year old Kyle Hite of Alburnett had just left his home, driving eastbound, approaching the railroad crossing. He was not able to get his semi stopped for an approaching train.

The semi slid onto the tracks just as the train arrived at the crossing. The train collided with the passenger side of the truck, pushing it off the tracks into a nearby ditch.

Hite sustained non-life threatening injuries. No one on the train was hurt.

Hite is being charged with Failure to Stop when the railroad crossing was not clear.
The Linn County Sheriff was assisted at the scene by Alburnett Fire and Center Point Ambulance.
