The Fayette County Sheriff reports several recent traffic accidents.


On Monday (Feb. 6) at about 8:30am, the sheriff was notified of a car/deer collission on Highway 18, west of Clermont. 48 year old Donald Oakland of Waukon was driving west when he struck the deer crossing the road. No one was injured but there was $6,000 damage to his 2006 Toyota Tacoma.

On Sunday (Feb. 5) authorities were notified of a vehicle in the ditch at 50th Street and "R" Avenue, just north of Oelwein. 59 year old John Klink of Oelwein was driving south when a mechanical failure caused him to drive into the ditch. No injuries were reported, and damages to his 2001 Pontiac Aztec were estimated at $5,000.

And late Saturday night (Feb. 4) at around 11pm, the sheriff got a report of a one-vehicle accident on Nature Road, west of Auburn. 21 year old Katelyn Fay of Sumner was driving west when she lost control of the vehicle and drove into the ditch. Fay was taken to the West Union hospital for treatment; the 2002 Mercury Sable was totaled, and a power line pole was damaged. The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
