Three Injured in an Accident Involving Two Vans
A two-vehicle accident in Fayette County Wednesday afternoon (March 13), sent 3 people to the hospital.
Shortly after 3pm Wednesday, the Fayette County Sheriff received a 911 call, reporting a 2 vehicle traffic accident with people injured, on Highway 18 and Quartz Road, just north of Hawkeye.
An eastbound van driven by 81 year old Janice Lalone, slowed to make a left turn when she was struck from behind by a van driven by 23 year old Samantha Conrad. The investigation determined that Lalone had signaled her intention to turn, and Conrad failed to slow down.
Lalone and her passenger, 83 year old Lester Lalone, along with Conrad, were taken by ambulance to the West Union hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Conrad is being charged with Following Too Close.
The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by Hawkeye Fire and First Responders, Tri-State EMS, Fayette EMS, and Iowa DNR.
