An Oelwein man who went to the sheriff's office to pick up an inmate being released, was arrested for driving illegally, an action that also resulted in 2 other people being arrested on illegal driving and drug charges.


At about 1:30pm Friday (June 25), 21 year old Brandon Fox of Oelwein drove to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in West Union, to pick up an inmate who was being released from jail. However, authorities discovered that Fox was driving with a suspended Iowa Driver's License. Before a deputy arrived, Fox fled the scene.

Deputies stopped Fox's vehicle at the intersection of Highway 150 and 190th Street, just north of the city of Fayette. 21 year old Makayla Cox of Oelwein was discovered at the wheel of the car, however Cox was operating with a barred driver's license.

A passenger in the vehicle, 32 year old Kurtis Shasteen of Oelwein, was wanted on a Fayette County warrant for a probation violation. Shasteen and Fox have also been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine.

All three were taken to the Fayette County jail.
