An eastern Iowa teen is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries from a weekend accident involving an all-terrain vehicle.


At about 8pm Saturday (May 4), Linn County emergency personnel were summoned to the accident scene on Edwards Road, south of Prairieburg.

An Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) driven by 13 year old Aidan Phelps of Monticello, rolled while the vehicle was headed south on Edwards Road. According to the Linn County Sheriff, Phelps sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken by Air Ambulance to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

A passenger on the OHV, 13 year old Baylor Holub of Anamosa, was not injured. Neither boy was wearing a helmet or seatbelt at the time of the accident.

It remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff. Assisting at the accident scene were Linn County Rescue, Jones County Sheriff, Prairieburg Fire Department, Central City Fire Department, Anamosa Ambulance and LifeGuard Air Ambulance.
