A young driver was able to walk away from an accident in rural Fayette County, but it totaled her vehicle.


According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, they received a report at about 10am Sunday (May 12), of a vehicle in the ditch, at the intersection of Highway 18 and Quartz Road, north of Hawkeye.

The investigation by the deputy determined that a 17 year old girl, whose name was not released, was driving west on Highway 18, when she attempted a right turn onto Quartz Road.

The car went out of control, and entered the ditch.

The girl was not injured, but her 2001 Chevy Impala was totaled.

The teen is being cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
