Swerving Semi Misses Car but Collides With SUV

Buchanan County authorities have just released information on a traffic accident involving a semi, an SUV, and a no-contact vehicle.

It happened just before 5:30pm Monday (Sept. 14), on Highway 150, north of Independence. A semi, driven by Marcus Brown of Ankeny, was northbound, following a car driven by Veronica Stewart of Oelwein.

Stewart slowed to make a turn into a private driveway; Brown was not able to stop in time. He swerved the semi to try to avoid a collision with Stewart's 1997 Ford Mustang.

But in doing so, the semi swerved into the southbound lane, crashing into an oncoming 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by Hannah Snyder of Independence.

No one was injured. Brown is being charged with Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance.
