A suspect from Cedar Falls is facing multiple charges following a shooting incident that left a Waterloo man with serious injuries Wednesday night. (May 3, 2017).

Officers responded to a report of shots fired near Lincoln and Conger Streets around 6:30 p.m. When they arrived, Waterloo police said they found a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Authorities identified the victim as Ornandes Bennett, 37, of Waterloo.

Bennett was transported to UnityPoint-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, where he underwent emergency surgery for internal injuries. Police said Bennett's condition is currently stable, but critical.

According to a Waterloo police press release, officers developed the identity of a suspect during their investigation. The probe led them to a residence in Cedar Falls, where they executed a search warrant to gather evidence in the case. Police said they recovered firearms and took a man into custody on multiple charges.

Arrested was Rajih Donley, 29, of Cedar Falls, Waterloo police said. Donley was charged in Black Hawk County District Court with willful injury, going armed with intent, carrying weapons, intimidation with a weapon, and two counts of felon in possession of a weapon.

Waterloo police said the investigation is continuing and no additional information about the shooting is being released at this time.

Cedar Falls police assisted Waterloo officers in their investigation.
