DUNKERTON, Iowa (AP) — A former Dunkerton high school student is taking his case to the Iowa Supreme Court after he was convicted of carrying a gun onto school grounds.

Justices will hear oral arguments in 20-year-old Mar'yo Lindsey Jr.'s case on April 14 in Clinton.

In 2014 a judge convicted Lindsey of possessing a firearm as a felon, carrying weapons on school grounds, going armed with a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana.

The Iowa Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction.

Lindsey played on the Dunkerton football team. Authorities say they found a handgun and marijuana in Lindsey's gear bag following an August 2013 game.

Lindsey argues authorities conducted an illegal search of his bag after he was injured in a game and sent to a hospital.
