Special Election for Council Seat in Hazleton Today
Voters in Hazleton are going to the polls today, to elect a new city council member.
The vacancy on the Hazleton City Council was created when member Josh Hershey resigned, in December.
The Council then appointed Amy Ekstrand to the post during a special meeting on February 4th, however a petition signed by Hazleton citizens was submitted to the city, requesting a special election.
On the ballot, Hazleton residents will have the choice of two candidates: Amy Ekstrand and Ronald Vawter.
Ekstrand will continue to serve on the council until results of the special election are determined.
The unexpired term will end this December.
Polls will be open in Hazleton, at the City Hall, from 11am to 8:30pm today.
