Northeast Iowa emergency crews have been able to rescue a stranded pregnant woman and her child, using a snowmobile.

The woman called for help when her vehicle got stuck in the snow Sunday evening, near Hills, in rural Johnson County.  The sheriff notes that the woman was trying to drive to the animal shelter, and her GPS sent her down 540th street, where her car became stuck in the snow.

Two men, who were not identified, tried to help free her vehicle, but also became stuck in snow that was one-to-two feet deep.

The Johnson County sheriff dispatched a squad car, but officers determined that they would not be able to make it through the snow.

So, the sheriff sent out a snowmobile, which was able to make it to the stranded woman and her 2 year old child, and take them back to Iowa City.

The pregnant woman and child, who were not identified, had been stuck in the snow for almost 2 hours, but were not injured.  According to Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek, the woman was due to have her baby in just 4 days.
