Authorities are currently withholding the name of a person who apparently shot himself during a standoff with police late Sunday afternoon (April 29).

Just before 5pm Sunday, the Linn County Sheriff was alerted of a shooting in the 1200 block of Bertram Street in Bertram, a town of about 300 in the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area.

When deputies arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his left foot. The victim told authorities who shot him, and that the assailant was still inside the home and armed with a gun.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital, and officers surrounded the home. The suspect was discovered to be hiding in the garage, and refused to come out.

Negotiators were summoned, and after several hours, deputies entered the garage and found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound.

No names are being released at this time.
