A Hawkeye man is being charged for causing a two-vehicle accident in Fayette.

It happened just before 11:30am Friday (May 17) at the intersection of Highway 150 and Water Street. 91 year old George Franks had stopped for a stop sign, waiting to cross the highway, when he pulled out in front of a vehicle driven by 47 year old Rob Nichols of Anamosa. No one was injured, but there was a total of $7,000 in damage to the two vehicles. Franks was charged with Failure to Yield When Entering a Through Highway.

An area woman escaped injury when her vehicle rolled as she swerved to miss an animal. It happened at about 3:45pm Thursday on "Q" Avenue near Maynard. 49 year old Vicky Koch was driving northbound when she swerved her pickup to miss an animal in the road. The truck went into the ditch where it rolled onto the passenger side. There were no injuries, but there was $7,000 in damage to her 2005 Chevy Silverado.
