Sheriff Called Out to Saturday Afternoon Accidents
The Fayette County Sheriff responded to two traffic accidents Saturday afternoon (June 27), one involving a deer, and the other a moped.
Just before 12:30pm, the sheriff got a 911 call, reporting a moped accident at 35th Street and "R" Avenue, just west of Oelwein. 71 year old John Peacock of Cedar Falls was operating the moped eastbound, when a small animal ran out onto the road. Peacock was not able to avoid hitting the animal, and he fell onto the road. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy One Hospital in Oelwein, to be treated for minor injuries. There was $1,000 in damage to the motorbike.
The other accident occurred shortly after 4pm Saturday, in the 12,000 block of Highway 18, west of West Union. A vehicle driven by 63 year old Henry Grayum of Ames struck a deer in the road. No one was injured, but the vehicle was a total loss.
