Separate Area Accidents Involving Tree, Cow, and Deer
Charges are pending in a one-vehicle accident at the Fayette/Bremer County line.
At about 9pm Sunday (Jan. 21) the Fayette County Sheriff received a report of a vehicle in the ditch off of 170th Street, just north of Sumner. A vehicle driven by 30 year old Michael Alderson of Sumner went out of control, entered the ditch, crossed over a private driveway then struck a tree. Alderson had to be extricated from the vehicle; he was taken to the Sumner hospital for treatment. His 2007 Dodge Dakota was totaled.
Also on Sunday, at about 4am, the Fayette Sheriff got a call of a vehicle that hit a cow near West Union. 46 year old Angela Corcoran of Ryan, was headed west in foggy conditions, when she crashed into a 350 lb steer calf that was standing on Lincoln Road, four miles north of West Union. No one was injured, but there was $1500 in damage to Corcoran's 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe.
And the Fayette County Sheriff reports an accident between a deer and a sport utility vehicle, that did not injure the driver. It happened at about 6pm Monday (Jan. 22) on Highway 18, west of Clermont. 22 year old Garrett Schmidt of Melrose, Wisconsin was driving west, when a deer entered the roadway, and the two collided. No injuries were reported, but the damage to Schmidt's 2014 Ford Escape totaled $6,000.
