The Buchanan County Sheriff was called out to the accident scene just before 4pm Thursday (July 16), on Highway 20, just southeast of Independence.
A 2000 Freightliner tractor/trailer, driven by Lyle Sanders of Dexter, was eastbound on 20, when it went out of control.
The semi went off the right side of the road and struck a cable barrier, which caused significant damage to the underside of the semi and trailer.
Sanders was not injured, but he was charged with Failure to Maintain Control, and Driving Beyond his 14 Hour Duty Period.
The Iowa DOT and Independence Fire Department assisted the Buchanan County Sheriff at the accident site.
