CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Teams have resumed their search for a man who witnesses say jumped into the Cedar River after dropping two shoes into the water.

Cedar Rapids Fire Department Battalion Chief David Brown said Tuesday that boats had been deployed as part of the search.

The department says the man was seen jumping from a wall near the First Avenue bridge around 7:40 p.m. Monday. Witnesses say he could still be seen as he passed under the Second Avenue bridge but then vanished from view. Officials say they found two shoes they believe belonged to the man.

The search was suspended around 9:45 Monday night because of the weather, darkness and debris in the river.
