Two Northeast Iowa schools went on lockdown this morning, but it was not an emergency situation: it was a test for area police dogs.

The Oelwein High School and Oelwein Middle School were closed down shortly after classes began this morning.

It was a trial run for law enforcement K-9's.

According to school officials, about 3 dogs and several area officers from police and sheriff's departments participated.

The dogs are normally used to sniff out illegal drugs.

The schools were put on lockdown for about 40 minutes while the dogs and their handlers scoured the schools for contraband.

There was no indication that anything illegal was found in today's K-9 test.
