The Oelwein Community School board has approved hiring a firm to help the district search for a new superintendent.

At Monday night's regular meeting, Superintendent Steve Westerberg officially submitted his resignation. Westerberg has accepted a similar position in Minnesota.

Prior to the regular meeting, the board met with G.Tryon and Associates, to discuss the specifics of the search process, timeline and marketing strategies. The board approved the superintendent search firm, as it was presented.

In other business, the board was informed that the school Calendar Committee has created two options for an August 31st school start date, two options for an August 24th start date, and two options if the present law changes, and an earlier start date would be allowed. Since the Iowa Legislature has been working on a compromise to the August 31st start date, the committee decided to wait for a few weeks to see if the law is changed.

The board also discussed the state aid proposed by the governor and legislature, with the House and the governor proposing a 1.25% increase, and the Senate wanting a 4% increase.

And the superintendent shared with the board, how the Little Husky Childcare and Preschool will be replacing retiring director, Lonna Powers.
