Authorities in Northeast Iowa are warning the public about an ongoing telephone scam.

According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, scammers claiming to be relatives, are calling area residents, advising them that they won a government grant, and are seeking banking and other personal information.

Law enforcement reminds residents to never give out personal information over the phone to people you may not know, and never send money to these scammers.
