Rural Indy Accident Sends 3 People to the Hospital
Three area people are recovering from a traffic accident in rural Buchanan County.
The sheriff's office received a report at about 7pm Friday (Dec. 27) of an accident at the intersection of Highway 150 and 265th Street, south of Independence.
Brent Olmstead of Independence was driving westbound on 265th Street, but failed to stop at the intersection.
His pickup struck the side of a vehicle driven by Susanne Herman of Waukon. Herman's vehicle spun around and entered a ditch.
Olmstead's pickup also went into a ditch, and rolled over onto it's top.
Herman and her two passengers were taken to the Independence hospital, to be treated for minor injuries.
Olmstead and his passenger were not hurt. He is being charged with Failure to Yield When Entering a Highway.
The Buchanan County Sheriff was assisted by the Independence Fire Department, and Area Ambulance Service.
