Rural Elgin Accident Totals Two Vehicles
A Postville motorist is being charged with causing an accident that totaled 2 vehicles at a rural Fayette County intersection.
It happened early Friday evening (Sept. 21) at the intersection of Filmore Road and Cedar Road, south of Elgin. A northbound sport utility vehicle driven by 21 year old Anjela Bubiy of Postville, pulled out from a stop sign, into the path of a westbound car driven by 74 year old Edward Schmitt of West Union.
The vehicles collided, with the car ending up in a nearby ditch. Schmitt was taken to the West Union hospital for an evaluation; no one else was hurt. Bubiy is being charged with Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway. Both vehicles were totaled.
And a Randalia woman escaped injury over the weekend, when her truck struck a deer, southeast of Hawkeye. Shortly after 3am Sunday, 31 year old Valerie Knospe was driving on C-14, near W-25, when a deer ran out onto the road, and collided with her 2006 Chevy truck. No one was injured, but the truck had $3,500 in damages.
