Rollover Near Minnesota Border Kills NE Iowa Man

A Northeast Iowa man has died in a one-vehicle accident near the Minnesota border.

The Howard County Sheriff reports that they received a call concerning a single vehicle rollover on Vale Road, which is 3 miles south of Florenceville.

An investigation determined that the driver, 48 year old Timothy Schmitt of Cresco, was driving east, when his pickup entered a ditch and rolled over.

Schmitt was ejected from the pickup and pronounced dead at the scene. According to authorities, this was the first fatality accident in Howard County this year.

The Howard County Sheriff continues to investigate the incident. The sheriff was assisted at the scene by Cresco Fire and Rescue, Howard County Ambulance, Howard County Medical Examiner, and Cresco Towing and Recovery.
