A historic business in Eastern Iowa will soon close its doors for good, after being in business for an amazing 118 years.

Rhomberg's Fur and Leather have been a staple in Dubuque for over 100 years, but KWWL reports that the owner says that the store will close at the end of March. Owner Jim Rhomberg told KWWL that announcing the closing now will allow him to say goodbye to loyal customers, and for those customers to get some great deals! So why close now? Rhomberg told KWWL that there is no fifth generation to take over the business and several other longtime employees are retiring, so Rhomberg made the tough decision to close up shop.

Jim Rhomberg has been at the helm since 1981 according to the store's website. He helped expand the store's selection to include men's, women's, and children's fashions in not only fur, but leathers and cashmere too. He also told KWWL that he also enjoyed transforming furs and leather from loved ones into keepsakes.

KWWL reports that after the store closes, Rhomberg plans to spend time with family and give back to the Dubuque community through charitable work. In the meantime, Rhomberg's is having a store-closing sale through the end of March on fur. leather, on everything in the store! Even a giant polar bear that they purchased from the FAO Shwartz toy store.
