That recent, very close election for open seats on the Hazleton city council, has resulted in a recount request.

In the August 18th special election, voters were asked to fill two council seats. In one race, for a seat with a term ending December 31st of this year, Gene Seiffert defeated Christopher Hayzlett, 79 to 68.

The other race, for a council post with the term ending December 31st of 2017, had three candidates on the ballot. Ronald Vawter was declared the winner with 76 votes; Troy McAllister got 71, and Randy Blume had 1.

A canvas the following Monday confirmed the results.

However, because the final tally was very close, two of the candidates, Christopher Hayzlett and Troy McAllister, have requested a recount. Hayzlett lost by 11 votes to Seiffert, and McAllister lost by only 5 votes to Vawter.

The recount has been scheduled for this Wednesday at 6pm.
