The Fayette County Sheriff reports several recent traffic accidents around the county.


On Saturday (July 7), in the area of Grain and Grannis Roads in rural Fayette, 26 year old Alex Dettbarn of Strawberry Point attempted a left turn. An oncoming car, driven by 18 year old Brylie Clark of Fayette, also turned left, and the two collided.
No one was injured. There was $500 damage to Dettbarn's 2001 Ford Mustang, and $5,000 damage to Clark's 2011 Chevy Malibu. Dettbarn was cited for Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.

At about 10:15pm Sunday (July 8), north of Wadena, a car driven by 18 year old Jenna Osterhus of Wadena struck a deer on Filmore Road. No one was hurt, but there was $2500 in damage to her 2008 Buick.

Just before 10pm Saturday, north of Sumner, a car driven by 79 year old Keith Westpfahl of Hawkeye, collided with 2 hogs on "W" Avenue. Again, no injuries, and damages were estimated at $5,000.

And on July 3rd, on 1st Street north of Maynard, a car driven by a 16 year old girl, went out of control, striking a bridge. There was $3,000 damage to the bridge and $1,000 damage to her car. No one was hurt. The driver was charged with Failure to Maintain control.
