Recent Births and Returning Families Boost St. Lucas

An apparent baby boom in a Northeast Iowa town, is rapidly increasing their small population.

St. Lucas, a community of about 150 people in northern Fayette County, is experiencing a rapid growth from numerous recent births.
19 babies were reportedly born to local citizens from August of 2018 through October of 2019.

Not only that, but several local families are announcing more upcoming births.

Over the last 10 years, there has been an increase in young families settling down in St. Lucas.

Some residents have noted that the makeup of the town has changed from mostly older, retired folks, to an increasing number of younger families.

Is it something in the water?

Actually, some former St. Lucas residents have come back to their hometown to raise their families.

Because of the population growth, a committee has been formed to raise funds for a new park. So far, they have raised $60,000 for new playground equipment, with a target of $200,000.
