Police Chief’s Vehicle Rear-ended by Jesup Resident
Buchanan County authorities have released information on a recent traffic accident involving the Jesup Police Chief.
It happened the afternoon of February 24th, on Baxter Avenue, north of Jesup. A police department SUV, driven by Jesup Police Chief Josh Evans, was stopped along the side of the road, with it's emergency lights on, as Evans was trying to help some stranded motorists.
At the time, visibility was near zero, and travel was not advised. The strong winds had blown snow across the road, also causing snow drifts.
Due to the poor visibility, a pickup driven by Robert McMartin of Jesup, collided with the rear of the police chief's vehicle.
Minor injuries were reported and no medical treatment was needed.
McMartin is being charged with Failure to Maintain a Reasonable and Proper Speed for Road/Weather Conditions.
