Plea Change Hearing for NE Iowan Accused of Shaking Baby

CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — A plea change hearing has been scheduled for a northern Iowa woman who's pleaded not guilty to endangering her infant son.

23-year-old Stephanie Fatland was charged in August with three felony counts of child endangerment. She was scheduled to go to trial next month in Floyd County District Court in Charles City.

The plea change hearing is set for May 18. Court records don't say what charges will be involved.

Authorities say Fatland took her 5-month-old son to a hospital on July 20. Doctors found several retinal hemorrhages and a bulging soft spot on his skull. Court records say Fatland acknowledged shaking the baby on three occasions.
