An accident involving a pickup and a semi sent one Northeast Iowa man to the hospital, and totaled both of the vehicles, Tuesday afternoon (May 5).


The Fayette County Sheriff responded to the scene after getting several 911 calls, reporting the accident at the intersection of Highway 150 and Klock Road, just south of the city of Fayette.

A pickup driven by 33 year old Steven Johanningmeier of Elgin, was southbound on 150 when Johanninmeier tried to pass a southbound semi driven by 67 year old John Frey of Fayette.

The two collided when Frey began a left turn onto Klock Road. Johanningmeier was taken to Palmer Hospital in West Union to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Frey was not hurt.

Both the pickup and the semi were considered to be total losses.

The Fayette County Sheriff continues to investigate the crash, and charges may be filed.

Also responding to the scene were the Fayette Police Department, Fayette Fire Department, and Fayette Ambulance.
