One Person Dead in Fayette County Accident

A 2 vehicle accident in rural Fayette County has taken the life of an Edgewood man.

It happened at about 1:45pm Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 3 and "W" Avenue, northeast of Oran. A car driven by 19 year old Melody Hewitt of Oelwein, pulled out onto the highway, and was struck by a truck driven by Charles Meyers of Edgewood. According to the State Patrol, Hewitt failed to yield when she entered the highway.

Meyers was killed in the accident. Hewitt was injured; she was taken to MercyOne hospital in Oelwein for treatment.

The accident was covered by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Fayette County Sheriff, Iowa DOT, Mercy Ambulance, Fairbank Fire and Ambulance, Oran Fire and First Responders, and Westgate Fire Department.
