One Dead in Buchanan Co. Accident on Highway 20

One person has died in a two-vehicle accident in Buchanan County, where icy conditions were a factor.

At about 6:15pm Tuesday (Feb. 5), the Iowa State Patrol was called to a traffic accident on Highway 20 near Independence.

An eastbound car went out of control on the icy highway, slid through the median, and crashed into a westbound semi.

One person in the car was pronounced dead from the injuries; no names have been released yet.

The investigation continues.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Buchanan County Sheriff, Independence Fire Department, Buchanan County Ambulance Service, and Iowa DOT Enforcement.
