Oelwein Couple Charged in an Illegal Dumping Incident
An Oelwein couple faces charges for illegally dumping items near the city yard waste site.
On Saturday (July 31), Oelwein Police began an investigation into refuse that was left at the community waste site, located in the 700 block of 4th Street SW.
The officers were able to trace some of the items back to 2 suspects, who were contracted to clean out items left by a previous tenant, at a rental property.
They were identified as 21 year old Makayla Cox, and 20 year old Brandon Fox, both of Oelwein. They are being charged with Illegal Dumping.
Ms. Cox and Mr. Fox were both cited to appear in court at a later date.

A theft is under investigation in Oelwein. According to the Oelwein Police Department, the theft was reported at about 8:45pm Thursday (July 29), in the ten block of 8th Street SW.
Information on what was taken, was not released.
The theft remains under investigation by the Oelwein Police Department.

A bicyclist was taken to University Hospitals after being struck by a car near Quasqueton.
The accident happened shortly after 8am Wednesday, in the 2800 block of Quasqueton Avenue. A car driven by Brent Meyers of Denver, Iowa collided with a bicycle operated by Mark Johnson of Cedar Rapids.
Johnson was airlifted by Lifeguard Air Ambulance to University Hospitals in Iowa City, with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
It was not known if the bike rider was taking part in RAGBRAI at the time.
The accident is still under investigation by the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.
