Oelwein P.D. Issues Citations for Selling Tobacco To Minors
Oelwein Police are using a special program to help make sure that businesses do not illegally sell tobacco products to minors.
During a compliance check on Wednesday (May 12), local officers checked 7 Oelwein area businesses.
Three people were cited for providing tobacco to minors. They were identified as 35 year old Talal Sarwar JanJua of Waverly, 20 year old Lovdeep Singh Cheema of Oelwein, and a minor.
The checks are part of the Iowa I-PLEDGE Tobacco Enforcement and Training Program. The goal of this program is is to increase voluntary compliance with the state's tobacco, alternative nicotine, and vapor product laws, through education and enforcement.

An Oelwein man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant.
32 year old Jeffrey Kessler was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, on a Scott County warrant. The original charge was Harassment-1st Degree.
Oelwein Police made the arrest after investigating an incident in the 400 block of North Frederick Avenue.
