Authorities have arrested an Oelwein man, after he led deputies on a chase, ending in a crash in Fayette County.


Shortly after midnight Tuesday (April 9), a Fayette county deputy attempted to pull a vehicle over for a traffic violation, near Oran. However, the driver refused to stop, and a chase began.

The pursuit ended when the driver, identified as 23 year old Layne Williams of Oelwein, lost control and drove into the ditch. No one was injured, but his 2003 Nissan was totaled.

Williams is being charged with Felony-Eluding, Reckless Driving, and Careless Driving. He was held in the Fayette County jail.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Oran Fire Department and First Responders, and Mercy Oelwein Ambulance.
