The Winter Storm Warning continues for a portion of NEI Iowa. The remainder of the area is under a Winter Weather Advisory.

The weather has effected some schools and their plans for Monday (read more).

We can expect periods of light snow across the area. It will taper off through the morning hours. Moderate to heavy accumulations have already occurred over north central Iowa with light amounts south and east. Snowfall rates will gradually diminish through sunrise.

The Winter Storm Warning (web) remains in effect until 1:00 PM today (Mar. 13). As of 4:53 AM this morning, the NWS forecast that an additional two inches or less will fall in the area bringing totals up to six to nine inches.

The Winter Weather Advisory (web) remains in effect until 1:00 PM today as well. Periods of light to moderate snow will continue early this morning, before snowfall rates diminish through the morning hours. Additional snowfall amounts will be in the 1 to 2 inch range. That would bring snow totals to two to six inches.

Blowing snow will limit visibility. Winds will become north at 10 to 20 miles per hour. Travel with caution due to snow covered/icy roads and periods of reduced visibility.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CLEAN OFF YOU VEHICLES

As a courtesy, you should clean off more than just your windows. Leaving large amounts of snow on your hood, roof, and trunk area will blow from your vehicle, and it will become a driving hazard to those driving behind you. Please snow left on your hood could suddenly fly up and land on your windshield, and it may blind you visibility which obvious creates a danger for not only you, but the vehicles in your path.
