New Superintendent Named for NE Iowa School

The Oelwein Community School district now has a new superintendent.

The Oelwein Board of Education announced the appointment of Dan Diercks as school superintendent today (Wednesday, April 29, 2015). His appointment goes into effect on July 1st.

Diercks is currently the high school principal at Allamakee Community Schools in Waukon, a job he began in 2007. He previously served as high school principal at the North Iowa Community School District in Buffalo Center, and was an I.T. instructor at Nora Springs and Scranton.

Diercks was one of the two finalists for the position, who were interviewed this week by the Oelwein school board and area residents.

He will take over for out-going superintendent Steve Westerberg, who has accepted a similar position at a school district in Minnesota.
