WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A new statue of Lou Henry Hoover has been installed at the site of the first lady's childhood home in Waterloo.

The statue by Iowa sculptor Chris Bennett was installed Wednesday at the site near the city's downtown where Hoover lived after being born in Waterloo in 1874.

She later moved to California and married Herbert Hoover, who became president in 1929.

The bronze statue depicts Hoover sitting in a wicker chair with her left hand resting on a globe.

Bennett created the statue at his studio in the small southeast Iowa community of Bentonsport.
