NE Iowa Woman To Be Sentenced for Baby Shaking

CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — Sentencing has been scheduled in July for a 23-year-old northern Iowa woman accused of shaking her 5-month-old son.

Online court records say Stephanie Fatland, of Rockford, pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury. A third count was dropped in exchange for her pleas. Her sentencing is set for July 27 at Floyd County District Court in Charles City.

Authorities say Fatland took her 5-month-old son to a hospital on July 20. Doctors found several retinal hemorrhages and a bulging soft spot on his skull. Court records say Fatland acknowledged shaking the baby on three occasions.
