NE Iowa Teen Falls Asleep, Drives into Ditch

A young Oelwein motorist is being charged with causing a one-vehicle accident in Fayette County.

Just before midnight Saturday, a Fayette County deputy was dispatched to the report of a vehicle in the ditch on Outer Road, on the east edge of Oelwein.

Authorities determined that the driver, 19 year old Benjamin Jensen of Oelwein, fell asleep at the wheel, and lost control of his vehicle.

Jensen refused medical treatment, and the vehicle was not damaged.

Jensen is charged with failure to maintain control.

Oelwein Police assisted the Fayette County Sheriff.
