NE Iowa Storms Topple Semi, Killing Driver
Wednesday's storms have proven to be deadly to a Northeast Iowa truck driver.
70 year old James Budlong of Dike was driving a semi-tractor trailer on Iowa Highway 57 near Parkersburg in Butler County, when winds from the storm system pushed over his rig, pinning him inside. Budlong died from his injuries.
At the time of the accident, winds with gusts up to 70 miles an hour were recorded in the area.
In Dubuque county, storms blew another semi off of Highway 20 in Farley. The truck rolled onto it's side. The driver was not hurt, but there was $30,000 in damage. The highway was closed down to traffic between Farley and Dyersville for about an hour, until the crash site could be cleared.
Winds also pushed a livestock truck off of Dunkerton Road near U.S. Highway 63, north of Waterloo. The truck ended up in a farm field, but no injuries were reported.
