DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A Dubuque elementary school has decided to cancel classes Friday after more than 20 percent of its students have been absent each day this week.

School leaders at Eisenhower Elementary School announced the closure in a note to parents, saying anywhere from 23 to 28 percent of students have missed classes each day this week because of flu-like symptoms.

In the note, leaders say the decision was made after consulting with state, county and city health officials in an effort to decrease exposure to the flu and reduce the spread of the illness.

All other schools in Dubuque Community School District are scheduled to open and operate on their regular Friday Schedules.
